Draft of Picture Editing

Audience/ purpose
The intended audience for my photo editing project is young adults with a creative and easy-going attitude. These people have an open outlook on life getting lost in the music. They listen to surf curse, tv girl, Tyler the creator to name a few. They love fashion, indie fashion in particular, and enjoy thrifting. Aesthetic means everything to these people. They integrate it into their photoshoots, clothes, places they shop, music, and Pinterest board. The point of the photo I created is to inspire people to want to get into this type of style. I believe this generation is starting to bring back some vintage styles and art forms that sort of kill two birds with one stone. What I mean by this is that they are not contributing to fast fashion as most of the clothes for this style are thrifted, which helps reduce our carbon footprint, and at the same time, they are pursuing a sense of fashion that helps them find an identity.
Images
The images that I took have to deal with everything that a person like this might enjoy. The vinyl is there as it represents something retro or “classic” but still has a cool look to it. ON top of this, the first thing you might notice is that a man is walking on it. The idea behind this dualism is that the person is being spun backward as they walk, so they are walking back in time metaphorically. To add to this, I also chose to incorporate images of records, the nostalgic yellow folders with sharp names, and people skating. I feel like all of these images help embody this aesthetic.
Process
I started with two base images. The first one was in the record store with all the folders. Following this, I decided that I should do another one to add a warm nostalgic feeling to it and so I ended up with the image of the vinyl. I really liked the color and look of the vinyl and so I cropped it out and didn’t add a filter to it so it could stand out. To do this I used V to cut it out; I know you can manually look for the magic wand but to me, this way is easier. Following this, I added the title. I did this by going to the “T” and typing in “Retrospect.” I chose this word for two reasons: the first is that it has to do with the theme of being vintage and old. The second reason was that retrospect is the name of one of my favorite indie albums which is the music genre for my targeted audience. I messed around with all the different patterns for the color of the font as well as the angel of the “3D” effect. Next, I photo \shopped the person onto the vinyl. I did this by cropping him out again using the “v” function and reducing his size so he was proportional with the vinyl. I then decide to do the same type of interactive idea with the skater. Here I once angina repeated the same process of cutting him out, but this time I placed him at the edge of the title so it looks like he is jumping off of the title. Lastly, I added the disposable camera, cropping it, then I put a filter over it making it shine.
Learning
I learned many different skills and techniques from this project. For example, I learned the compliments that different filters can have on certain types of images. I also learned how to edit the font as well as font style via happy accidents; the fur one is insane to me. Overall I think I did a decent job incorporating all of the skills I acquired from doing the tutorials and exercises.
Next
In the next project, I think something I will do the same is starting off with two images and bending them. I like to do this as my first step especially if the color's warmth is similar as it results in a very good and nostalgic blend. Another thing I will do the same is add interactive “figures” such as the person on the vinyl. I think this is a clever and funny idea that I enjoy so I will continue to do it. Something I will do differently is trying to add different effects that could make certain elements pop out. What I meant by this is adding a neon frame on a certain record or something along those lines to show off some of my new skills.
